12 Month Maternity Cover

If you're looking for an opportunity to make a real impact, both within our council and the local community, then this opportunity as Head of HR and Workforce Planning will allow for just that. 

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will play an advisory role to the Council of the Isles of Scilly’s senior leadership team, supporting decision making through high quality advice, guidance and information.

This role is for a 12 month Maternity Cover, and up to 3 days per week.

The Head of HR will:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Human Resources department.

  • Manage and mentor the HR team.

  • Implement and oversee HR policies and procedures, ensuring these are embedded effectively across the council

  • Lead on change management initiatives.

  • Build strong relationships with senior leadership.

  • Work closely alongside the Payroll and Finance teams and in the commissioning of Learning and Development services.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the effective delivery of HR through workforce planning, recruitment & selection, performance management, Job Evaluation and throughout the employment cycle working closely with management and employees to provide the most appropriate solutions when dealing with change or conflict situations. You will have strong motivation to drive continuous improvement, maintaining momentum through change.

This role will support exciting projects such as the Integration of Health and Social Care and provides variety and challenge in your day-to-day role.

A successful Head of HR should have:

  • Proven experience in a similar role

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.

  • Excellent knowledge of HR policies and best practices.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels
