Member Services Officer
Location: Westminster, London
About us
The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.
We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.
We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.
We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community to this high-profile role.
About the role
The LGA is looking to recruit a Member Services Officer to support the Member Services team and provide comprehensive support to our political governance arrangements.
This is an exciting role with lots of opportunities to grow and develop – it’s one of the reasons why so many senior managers in local government have worked in Member or Democratic Services.
Our mainly hybrid meetings are attended by Members from across England and Wales and cover every aspect of local government policy and business. Most meetings are supported from our Westminster headquarters, where you will be based, but you should also be prepared occasionally to attend and support meetings in other parts of the country.
In line with our flexible working policy, you will need to be in the office at least two days a week and on those days when you are supporting meetings or organising other member events.
About you
You will have experience of managing formal meetings in a local authority, membership body or similar.
You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, a structured approach and attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines in a complex and high-profile political organisation.
Politically aware, you must be able to manage the relationship between senior officers and elected representatives with tact and diplomacy and have a firm grasp of the use of IT systems, ideally including committee management software.
You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
To apply
If you would like to be considered for the role, please complete this offline application form which includes a supporting statement detailing how you meet the criteria of the role and email this to recruitment@local.gov.uk before the closing date.
